Andrzej Cichon Andrzej Cichon, a born on 2 August in Kutno, Poland. His first carvings come from the time he was 14. In 1983 he entered for a Competition held by The Kutno Museum. He was distinguished for his works. Since that time he has participated in 24 competitions, always awarded or distinguished. He participates in the open-air carving sessions, the meetings with young people as well as in folk art fairs all over Poland. His works are displayed in the Museums of Warsaw, Poznan, Eodz, Torun, Plock, Eeczyca and Kutno. The majority of Andrzej's work is owned by private collectors in Poland and in other countries all over the world including the United States of America, Canada, Japan, Australia, in all European and in some South American countries. He co-operates with galleries in Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and The United States. His carvings were exhibited at The La Rochelle Fair in France. He has been a member of The Folk Artists Association since 1985. He carves in linden wood; his works are polychromed. In the late eighties his wife took up painting. At present he carves and she paints. They both invent new subject and ornamentation for their works focusing on sacred carvings, especially scenes from the Old and New Testament. He enjoys carving scenes showing customs, rites and everyday country life. Apart from single figures he also carves compositions of many other scenes. His works are distinguished by rich ornamentation and simple but well-considered composition. |
