Ryszard Prill Ryszard Prill was born in 1949 in Walbrzych, Poland. He spent much of his early life racing bicycles for the Polish nation team. He had the opportunity to travel to different countries throughout Europe and compete internationally during Soviet rule. At the same time Ryszard discovered his other passion, wood carving. He is presently still carving. In the beginning his carvings were gifts to family and friends. After his cycling career subsided he took up carving as a profession. Most of his carvings are bought by foreigners. He sells his carvings in several, countries around the world including Australia, Great Britain, Japan, Germany, and the United States.. His first carvings were from linden wood. He now carves from granite and marble as well. He did not start to carve from rock until about 8 years ago, so it is kind of new to him. He enjoys carving from all these different materials. His biggest project to date was the 160 centimeter Jesus, carved for the Catholic church in a town just outside of Warsaw. Ryszard has a style which is unique and perfected. His pieces are elaborate and astonishingly detailed, giving them a very realistic feel. |
