| Stanislaw Suska Stanislaw Suska was born on the second of January, 1959 in the small Polish village of Dambrowka. Stanislaw comes from an area well known for it folk art wood carvings. Wood carving runs in his family, some of which include his father Waclaw, and his uncle Boleslaw. Stanislaw carved his first piece of folk art when he was 14 years old. He enjoys carving "deep" reliefs which are carved out of flat pieces of wood, two or more inches deep. His pieces have a warm feel to them, largely due to the variety of paints and SuskaÕs distinctly bright facial features. Most of his art is influenced by the Old and New Testament. Some of the scenes that he enjoys doing include "NoahÕs Ark", "Expulsion from Eden", "Road to Jerusalem" and especially the nativity scene. Stanislaw has also carved famous Polish heros such as Copernicus. He has carved pieces for Catholic churches including reiterations of life-size pieces for the century old churches scattered throughout Poland. Stanislaw has his work displayed in Museums throughout Poland including the following cities: Krakow (Cracow), Torun, Lublin, and Warsaw. His work is also in the hands of private collectors in Canada, Germany, and the United States. Stanislaw has been competing in folk art carving competitions since 1979. He has won 1st prize in a nationwide nativity scene contest. |
